Get real, he does sell cupcakes, No he doesn’t actually sell cupcakes, crazy right? That got you a bit curious about what he does, Didn’t it, That just shows how important a name can be to a business, especially branding a business.
He actually sells t-shirts with cupcakes on them, The Johnny Cupcakes line includes shirts, shorts, sweaters, jewellery, undergarments, belts and pins.
Johnny Earle is the Founder/CEO of the clothing company, He started it in 2001.
Johnny Earle, A college dropout with A.D.D, he quickly started pin business designing pins, buttons, and badges for bands and businesses, he also worked twice a week at a silk screening shop.
His band, On Broken Wings, also got signed to a record label and whilst on tour, he would bring t-shirts on tour and sell them out of my suitcase, he decided to take his business seriously after huge demands and the rest is cupcakes history.
The primary store is located on Newbury Street in Boston, Massachusetts, and is decorated in a bakery theme. “When people find we don’t have cupcakes, some get mad. But even the ones who get upset tell the story about how some stupid kid tricked them into going into his store,”
On how he got the name Johnny cupcakes
Almost every day when I went into work, I was given a different, completely random nickname for no reason whatsoever. I guess Johnny is an easy name to throw just about any word at the end of it? ‘Johnny Appleseed’, ‘Johnny Coffeecakes’, ‘Johnny Cupcakes’, ‘Johnny Pancakes’, etc… While working at the silk screening shop making t-shirts for the metal/hardcore band I use to be in, I thought it would be funny to make a couple random shirts that said ‘Johnny Cupcakes’ on them for the fun of it. So I did.
