Introducing One2One Medicine – Easing your way into medical school

Grant Milne, a fifth year medical student is the brain behind One 2 One Medicine. The 23 year old completed three years of pre-clinical studies at Cambridge University before transferring to UCL for clinical training.

He also holds a BSc in Management from the Judge Business School at Cambridge University. The medical entrepreneur developed the idea for One 2 One after tutoring A-level students in biology and chemistry.

He said: “Everyone wanted to study medicine. Yet of the thousands of school students who apply to British medical schools every year, only one in five gains a place at their first choice. The application process is complex – every medical school has its own interview style and desired credentials. Many applicants need help, and I knew they would greatly benefit from university-specific advice from someone who has successfully gone through the process.”

One 2 One provides medical school hopefuls with a list of around 100 approved tutors, from which they can choose someone to meet face-to-face or talk to via Skype. One 2 One earns a small percentage of the tuition fee.

The One 2 One Solution

One 2 One supports future doctors in two ways: by one-to-one tutoring and the effective use of Smartphone Apps.

One 2 One Tutors: By creating a revolutionary tuition system that matches school pupils with tutors studying at their UK medical schools of choice. The tutors help with 5 areas that candidates are required to excel at, by tailoring tuition on a one-to-one basis with the applicant. The tutors also assist current medical students who need additional support.

One 2 One Apps: By creating innovative iPhone and Android apps that transform the way that future doctors learn and treat patients. Their first App – OSCE Trainer – has over 4000 downloads, or about ½ of all clinical students in the UK with smart phones. Future developments are planned for iPhone and android apps that will help with all areas of the UK medical curriculum.

Adnan Ebrahim new startup – Car Throttle

Adnan Ebrahim Car Throttle

Adnan started up online selling wristbands on eBay when he was 15. It was then that he figured out the world of online commerce and soon after, he became interested in creating websites.

In February 2006 (aged 16), he started up a website called Blogtrepreneur (www.blogtrepreneur.com). For 2 years, he built the site up and learnt about internet marketing, website monetisation and search engine optimisation.

The site started to make 4 figure profit levels per month and in December 2008; the site was acquired by US Company, YoungEntrepreneur.com Inc.

Soon after in January 2009, he founded Car Throttle (www.carthrottle.com) which is based on his passion for performance cars.

Currently, the site receives over 75,000 page views per month and profitable, and currently have advertising contracts with some of the largest auto insurance companies in the UK.

Perhaps what is the coolest thing is that I have got to review some very sweet cars, including a Lamborghini Gallardo, Porsche 996 Turbo and VW Scirocco! He says

Adnan currently works also with a team of 5 part-time writers based globally who help to contribute to news articles and who also receive press cars from manufacturers due to their relationships with companies such as Ford, Infiniti, Acura, Audi, Nissan and Volkswagen.

Finishing off our discussion he said:

The business was largely grown out of my University room as I am a student at UCL.

Due to my passion for entrepreneurship, I managed to become elected as President of UCL Entrepreneurs. Alongside my committee, I was responsible for growing the Society from 30 to over 150 paying members boosting us into the Top 10 Societies List. We also co-organised the 2010 National Student Enterprise Conference alongside NACUE and UCL Enterprise.
